Shore based pilotage (LOA)

This can be implemented in adverse weather conditions, or when the construction of a ship that is required to take a pilot by law, cannot be boarded.

To qualify for LOA, the ship has to satisfy certain legal requirements, such as those of maximum length or draught. Added on to this, is the criteria concerning the transportation of dangerous cargo.

From the Wandelaar via the Scheur channel:
Maximum length: 175 m Maximum draught: 80 dm

From the Steenbank via the Oostgat:
Maximum length: 115 m Maximum draught: 64 dm

LOA is not available to out-going vessels.
